Roofing up to a wall.
The flat roofing material must go up the wall a minimum of 12 or up the wall and over the top of the wall if the wall is less than 12 high.
By code the membrane has to extend inboard of the exterior wall by 2 feet.
All exterior wall coverings whether it is wood siding vinyl siding brick or stone veneer stucco etc.
Where a wall is perpendicular to the roofing slip pieces of step flashing under the siding.
We ask for 6 inches up the wall.
Through wall flashing is necessary to redirect moisture that has penetrated the veneer back to the outside.
Must be kept up off the surface of the roof a minimum 1 some manufacturers of exterior wall coverings require.
Step 6 install through wall flashing.
There have always been problems with the flashing details at head walls rake walls and chimneys especially if stucco brick or stone veneer is used.
Install it through the entire thickness of the brick veneer.
Step 7 flashing your chimney.
Roof to wall flashing.
If the roof meets a wall that is parallel to the shingles roof up to the wall then slip a long continuous piece of flashing under the siding and on.
I made this video this morning and i hope it help explain the flashing wall detail where the siding meets the roof.
Here is an attempt though maybe not a very good one to make the roof flashing serve also as a through the wall flashing with a tile roof.
Depending on the manufacturer s spec some roofing materials may require an ice barrier membrane on the entire roof.
Apply a flashing piece then a shingle then flashing as you would apply step flashing for a chimney.
The omittance of the termination metal leaves an opening at the top of the coping and allows for moisture infiltration at the space between the parapet.
