I m seeing power consumption a little higher than your measurements but this may depend on if you re booting to a cli or desktop and what networking you are using.
Raspberry pi 4 power consumption watts.
If you use wi fi instead of ethernet you re still looking at 4 2 watts.
The gpio pins can draw 50ma safely distributed across all the pins.
The biggest issue i see with this increased power consumption is the additional heat.
When idle the new raspberry pi requires 4 4 watts with a usb keyboard mouse and ethernet.
When the raspberry pi 4 first came out it ran much hotter.
Which consumes a mere 0 8 watts at idle and 1 6 watts under load.
Raspberry pi 4 b.
The power requirements of the raspberry pi increase as you make use of the various interfaces on the raspberry pi.
That s considerably more than the raspberry pi 3 b s consumption with 3 1 watts ethernet and 2 5 watts wi fi.
For raspberry pi 0 3 we recommend our 2 5a micro usb supply.
An individual gpio pin can only safely draw 16ma.
For raspberry pi 4 we recommend our 3a usb c supply.
The pi 3 model b saw it s power consumption increase by 50 from compared to the pi 2 model b.
Especially if you put this pi 4 in the official pi 4 case with zero ventilation.
The increase from the pi 3 to the latest raspberry pi 4 is around 38 without 4k video support enabled and almost 49 with 4k video enabled.
More performance means more power consumption.
Conserve raspberry pis power consumption.
The official raspberry pi 4 power supply which costs around 10.
As you d expect higher power consumption will lead to much of the energy being converted to heat.
